Estate Administration is the process of collecting your assets and distributing them after you have died.
How these assets will be distributed will be determined whether you have a Will or died Intestate (that is without a Will or your Will is invalid) and whether anyone has a right to contest your Will.
The responsibility of collecting and distributing the Estate lies with the Executor/s (if you have a Will) or the Administrator/s (if you don’t have a Will).
Sometimes the Executor/s or Administrator/s requires the sanction of the Court to collect the assets and distribute them. If you have a valid Will, this is called Probate and if you don’t have a valid Will, this is called Letters of Administration.
